The Hagerstown Police Department has charged a third person in a June 16 assault near Sheetz at 301 E. Washington St., according to Washington County District Court records.
D’Anthony Derrell Hairston, 19, of 60 E. Washington St., in Hagerstown is charged with first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault, according to court records.
Donovan Antonio Watts, 24, of 3042 Brightseat Road, Apt. 302, and Chalonda Chylease Henderson, 27, of 50 Summit Ave., Apt. 502, both of Hagerstown, were charged last week with one count each of first-degree assault and two counts each of second-degree assault, according to the application for statement of charges.
The assaults were reported June 16 at 2:17 a.m., when officers responded to the store after getting a disturbance call, the application for statement of charges said. Shane Hutzel was found unconscious on the pavement and several people were trying to leave the scene, the document said.
Hutzel, who sustained broken bones in his face, had been punched, stomped and kicked by several males and a female, the charging document said. Another male, Ryan Robinson, had an injury to his ear that required stitches, the document said.
The incident began when a man tried to keep two women from leaving the store and Robinson came to their aid, the charging document said. The confrontation escalated to a fight, the document said.
Police later reviewed Sheetz surveillance video and were able to identify five people who took part in the assaults on Hutzel and Robinson, the charging document said.
Hairston was arrested Monday and was being held at the Washington County Detention Center on $30,000 bond, court records said.
Police said Wednesday morning that a warrant has been issued for another man accused of taking part in the assault, but he was not yet in custody.
