Child-abuse case shelved
Cecil County prosecutors have shelved their case against a Conowingo couple charged in the death of their infant grandson.
Charges against 53-year-old Gloria Sadler and her 52-year-old husband, Billy, were placed on the inactive docket Friday. The Sadlers faced child abuse-related charges in the November 2006 death of 5-month-old Calob Martin.
The charges can be recalled within a year. After a year, the charges can only be recalled with good cause.
Prosecutors had alleged the Sadlers failed to seek medical attention for the baby after his father, Billy C. Martin, punched him the head. The child's mother, Terri Rust, faced similar charges but was found guilty of a less serious negligent parenting charge.
Martin pleaded guilty to child abuse resulting in death and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
