A 29-year-old man who was working at the Obama campaign headquarters in Chicago collapsed and died late Friday morning, campaign officials said.
Larry Langford, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman, said paramedics were dispatched to 130 E. Randolph St. shortly before 11 a.m. after Okrent became unconscious.
Okrent had worked with the Obama team since 2004, campaign officials said.
Traveling in Virginia on Friday, President Barack Obama called Okrent's family to offer his condolences, officials said Friday evening.
Police were not called because the incident did not appear to be suspicious, Chicago police said.
An autopsy is slated for Saturday to determine the cause of death, the medical examiner's office said.
