Man charged in fatal crash
A Carroll County man has been charged in a fatal crash that occurred about a year ago, state police said yesterday.
Delton Glass III of Finksburg is charged with negligent driving, failure to drive right of center and with having an open alcoholic beverage container in a vehicle, police said. He is also charged with possession of a handgun in a vehicle, and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia..
The crash occurred Aug. 29, 2007, on Route 91 near Altondale Road near Finksburg, when Glass, who was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, crossed the center line and hit a 1988 GMC Suburban driven by Verna Jenkins of Upperco, police said. Jenkins and her husband, Curtis Jenkins, were killed and their granddaughter was injured.
Earlier charges of vehicular manslaughter were dropped.
The latest charges stem from the investigation into the accident and information that showed "items of criminal nature" were in the Glass residence, police said. Marijuana, cocaine, drug paraphernalia and an explosive gas grenade were found at the home, according to police.
