Proposed changes affecting Aberdeen Proving Ground

Losses:

  • The Army Environmental Center moves to Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Loss of 180 jobs.

  • Ordnance Center and School moves to Fort Lee, Va. Loss of 4,200 jobs.

  • Relocate mobilization functions to Fort Dix, N.J.

  • Gains:

  • Close Fort Monmouth, N.J., and relocate to APG procurement management and related support functions for depot level reparables; also: integrated materiel management, user and related support functions; information systems, sensors, electronic warfare, and electronics research and development and acquisition (RDA).

  • Relocate to APG the sensors, electronics, and electronic warfare research, development and acquisition activities and information systems RDA from Fort Belvoir, Va.

  • Relocate the Army Research Institute Human Systems Research to APG from Fort Knox, Ky.

  • Relocate to APG Information Systems Development and Acquisition from Redstone Arsenal, Ala.

  • Relocate the Army Test and Evaluation Command and its components, now in Alexandria, Va., to APG. Gain of 470 jobs.

  • Relocate the Civilian Personnel Operations Center now at Rock Island Arsenal, Ill., to Fort Riley, Kan., and APG.

  • Relocate to APG the Non-Medical Chemical Biological Defense Development and Acquisition now at Brooks City Base, Texas.

  • Relocate to APG the Chemical Biological Defense Research component of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency at Fort Belvoir, Va.

  • Relocate the Medical Chemical Defense Research at the Walter Reed Army Institute for Research Forest Glen Annex and consolidate it with the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense at APG.

  • Relocate to APG the Vehicle Technology Directorates from the Army Research Laboratory, Langley, Va., and the Army Research Laboratory, Glenn, Ohio.

  • Relocate to APG the procurement management and related support functions for depot level reparables at Fort Huachuca, Ariz.
