All-Baltimore County: Volleyball
Player of the Year
Bailey Webster, St. Paul's
Webster was a household name among area volleyball fans before the season started, but the junior took her game to another level this year.
One of the most highly recruited volleyball players in the nation, she led the Gators to a 22-1 record, the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference championship, the private schools title and the No. 2 ranking. She was named the Gatorade Maryland Player of the Year.
Her most complete match of the year might have been the private schools final against Washington's Good Counsel, when she had 34 kills, three blocks and 11 digs in a 3-0 sweep.
Coach of the Year
Jayne Lacy, Towson
Not satisfied to play only her assigned schedule, Lacy looked for high-quality opponents that she knew would improve her team and get it ready for the playoffs. The strategy paid off.
The ninth-ranked Generals went 14-5 this season, losing to No. 1 Reservoir, No. 2 St. Paul's, No. 5 Dulaney (twice) and No. 7 River Hill. In scrimmages and tournaments, the Generals played nine of the area's top 15 programs. The tough schedule helped Towson advance to the Class 3A state semifinals, where it lost to Reservoir in three games.
Lacy graduated from Towson in 1978 before playing for Western Maryland (now McDaniel College). Her alma mater asked her to return as coach 13 seasons ago. She led Towson to a state championship in 2000.

Note: Player and Coach of the Year were selected by Mike Frainie after consultation with The Sun staff and area coaches. The public schools and IAAM teams were select ed through voting by coaches of the respective leagues.
