Wounded Va. Tech student improving

The family of Justin Klein, a 2004 Catonsville High School graduate injured in Monday's shootings at Virginia Tech, said he is expected to be released from the hospital "shortly," according to a statement released yesterday.
Klein, a Virginia Tech junior, was shot three times--twice in his right leg and once in his left elbow, according to the statement. His medical condition "continues to improve," the family said in a statement faxed to news media outlets.
"Justin Klein and his family appreciate all the love and support they have received following this week's tragic events at Virginia Tech," the statement said.
An engineering science and mechanics major, Klein is on the dean's list and is a member of the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor fraternity.
During his high school years, Klein was a member of the Honor Society and Math Honor Society. He is also an Eagle Scout. His brother, Ryan, is a junior at the high school.
Parents Ross and Diane Klein live in Catonsville, according to the statement.
Shortly before 3 p.m., a crew working in the Lansdowne area on Hammonds Ferry Road struck the main, causing the gas to ignite, fire officials said.
The fire was contained about 3:30 p.m., officials said. No one was injured in the blaze, county fire officials said.
As part of the exercise, Baltimore County will be activating a shelter for emergency evacuees, and volunteers of all ages are needed to participate.
Volunteers will be asked to report to the shelter at the Parkville Senior Center, 8601 Harford Road, for a briefing at 10:30 a.m. The exercise will begin at 11 a.m. and conclude by 2:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided for all volunteers.
