Miami Beach Park reopens to swimming
Miami Beach Park in eastern Baltimore County is set to reopen this weekend for swimming after having been closed for the past seven summers.
The beach will be open weekends only starting Saturday until mid-June, when public schools close. It also will be open Memorial Day. After June 13, the beach will be open for swimming Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. Hours of operation will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Chesapeake Bay park also features a picnic pavilion, a boardwalk and a playground. It is one of three county-owned swimming areas. The others are Rocky Point Park in Essex and Oregon Ridge Park in northern Baltimore County.
Miami Beach has been closed since August 2000 because of high levels of bacteria in the water, officials said. County environmental protection officials have determined that the water is now safe for swimming. The park is located off Bowleys Quarters Road.
Admission is $3 for children 11 years old and under; $4 for seniors; $7 for adults on weekends, and $6 for adults on weekdays.
