City man gets 9 years in prison for role in drug organization
3 other men convicted in the case; 11 more are indicted
A 41-year-old Baltimore man was sentenced to more than nine years in federal prison yesterday for distributing heroin in the city as part of a larger drug organization that is being prosecuted, the Maryland U.S. Attorney's Office said.
Gerard Kamoke Day conspired with at least three other men in what authorities describe as a large-scale drug distribution organization that was the target of a six-month investigation by local and federal law enforcement officials. Prosecutors said undercover officers tapped the phones of suspected dealers as part of an investigation dubbed "Operation Fowl Play."
Tony Maurice Caldwell, 48, and James Joseph Henderson, 39, both of Baltimore, have already pleaded guilty to drug charges and were each sentenced to nearly six years in prison. Kevin Anthony Hickman, 48, of Baltimore, was convicted by a federal jury last week of distributing heroin and faces life in prison when he is sentenced July 18.
Eleven other suspects have been indicted in Baltimore Circuit Court on charges related to the case and are scheduled to be tried June 16, prosecutors said.
