Tucked into east Baltimore between Butchers Hill, Washington Hill and Greek Town, Patterson Park is one of the most famous of Baltimore City's parks. Patterson was created in 1827 with a donation of six acres to create an area with public walkways, romantic paths, pavilions, trees, fountains, a mansion and two lakes. Now 155 acres strong, Patterson Park is one of the largest parks in Baltimore City. Although it has gotten some attention in recent years for being unsafe after dark, the Friends of Patterson Park are very active in making sure that people are aware of the park's many advantages. Attendance is now much greater in both the daytime and evening. Recently renovated tennis courts, as well as other imminent renovations have made Patterson Park a place that can be enjoyed by all.
