Construction worker dies in fall on job
For the second time in three weeks, a construction worker has died in an industrial accident in Harford County, authorities said yesterday.
A man fell about 40 feet from a roof to the concrete floor yesterday at a warehouse under construction in Perryman, authorities said.
Police and emergency workers responded to the 2:40 p.m. accident at the building site at 511 Chelsea Road, an area where there are several large warehouses. The worker, who was wearing safety gear, was moving sheet metal on the roof when he fell. He died at the scene, police said.
Police are withholding the identity of the victim, who lived out of the state, until his family is notified.
On June 24, Emilio Ernesto Herrera, 42, of Silver Spring was pronounced dead at a Belcamp warehouse after falling about 18 feet from scaffolding at an appliance storage facility. Emergency personnel who had been at the scene said that Herrera, who was working for Carroll Masonry Inc. of Glyndon, was not wearing fall protection or a helmet.
The investigation regarding Herrera has been turned over to the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health program, which investigates workplace deaths.
