The Annapolis Maritime Museum needs volunteers to staff the McNasby Oyster Company Building from noon to 4 p.m. Thursdays-Sundays. Volunteers will be trained to interpret the museum's current and up-coming exhibits, themes and education programs. They must be enthusiastic, cheerful and willing to learn. Hospice of the Chesapeake is looking for people who enjoy cooking to assist staff members in the kitchen at the Creston G. Tate and Betty Jane Tate Foundation Chesapeake Hospice House, 817 S. Volunteers are also needed to serve on the board of directors.

The EVBB (Eastern Veterinary Blood Bank), one of only two volunteer blood donor centers for dogs in the United States, is seeking canine blood donors. Healthy dogs receive treats and a health check-up each time they donate blood. For each unit of blood donated, a free unit of blood is available for the canine donor, in case a transfusion is ever needed.

Movable Feast, a nonprofit organization, provides home-delivered meals for clients who are homebound with HIV/AIDS. Volunteers, who can be as young as 16 (15 or younger with an adult) are needed to deliver meals between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. Meal delivery takes about an hour. Drivers have flexibility in setting their schedules.

Emergency response

The Anne Arundel & Annapolis Local Emergency Response Team (AALERT) recruits groups of at least three volunteers from communities, businesses and faith-based organizations to train to assist their communities in the event of an emergency. The volunteers will be equipped by the Office of Emergency Management and trained in preparedness, triage, disaster psychology, light search and rescue techniques, CPR and medical aid, and safety for rescuers.
