A teenager who died in 1957 after becoming ill at a Topeka home for troubled youth will finally get a headstone on his grave.
The family of Bennie Lee Graham will hold a ceremony Saturday at Mount Hope Cemetery to install the headstone.
Graham, who was from Kansas City, Kan., died on June 28, 1957, of complications from an appendectomy he had before he was sent to the Boys Industrial School for youths. He was 14.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/rrUQfm) that the state buried Graham in the pauper's grave section of Mount Hope Cemetery.
A small cemetery for the Boys Industrial School was overgrown at the time, preventing Graham from being buried there with 12 other youths who had died while at the home.
