Allen Fieldhouse was jam-packed with thousands of screaming fans hoping to will their Jayhawks out of a three-game losing streak. It started out as a close game but once Thomas Gipson and Jordan Henriquez both got called for their second fouls, Kansas started pulling away. Kevin Young's dunk followed quickly by an alley oop to Jeff Withey sparked a racuous Fieldhouse to go crazy during a 12-5 run that put Kansas up 28-15.
Kansas continued to stymie Kansas State and would eventually build up a 21-point lead with about 4 minutes remaining in the first half. The Jayhawks scored 5 points in the last minute of the half to take a 47-29 advantage at the break.
Kansas State started the second half much better than they ended the first. Angel Rodriguez connected twice from beyond the arc while Rodney McGruder scored the next 5 points to put the 'Cats back within 16.
However for everything Kansas State threw at Kansas, the Jayhawks had a big answer. Jeff Withey blocked a shot, threw down a dunk and made the extra free throw and then blocked another shot to once again give Kansas a 20-point lead. Withey would finish with 5 blocks making him the all-time leading blocker in Kansas history.
Rodney McGruder worked around the defense of Naadir Tharpe in the second half to score 17 of his 20 points but the damage had already been done in the first. Angel Rodriguez and Will Spradling would both finish in double-digits scoring with 17 and 10 points respectively for Kansas State.
Jeff Withey finished with another double-double for Kansas with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Travis Releford also scored 10 for Kansas.
