Approximately 112 soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 108th Aviation Regiment, Kansas National Guard, will be welcomed home by family and friends in a ceremony on Saturday, August 11.

The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in Lee Arena, Washburn University, Topeka.

The doors will open at 9 a.m.

The remainder of the deployed soldiers will return at a later date.

Approximately 250 soldiers of the Black Hawk helicopter battalion deployed in August 2011 for a year-long mission in Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The unit conducted air movement and air assault operations in support of 29th Combat Aviation Brigade and the Deployable Aviation Task Force.

The 1st Battalion, 108th Aviation, is headquartered in Topeka with companies in Topeka and Salina, and Austin, Texas.
