EL CAJON, Calif. -- A woman hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes Wednesday and plowed through a temporary ramp and over a deep trench before landing in a construction site near El Cajon City Hall.
The driver had been eastbound in the 100 block of Rea Avenue just before 3 p.m. when the accident occurred, said Monica Zech, El Cajon's public information officer.
Firefighters arrived to help the woman out of her car and into an ambulance, but it was determined she was uninjured and she asked to stay on the scene while her car was removed by a tow truck.
The corner of Rea Avenue and Sulzfeld was closed for about an hour while the vehicle was removed. The ramp is now closed for repairs, Zech said.
