NEW YORK -- Donald Trump announced today that Miss California, Carrie Prejean, will get to keep her crown.

Trump, who runs Miss USA, made the announcement at Trump Tower in New York City with Prejean by his side.

Prejean spoke out about the recent controversy surrounding her stance on gay marriage, and revealing photographs posted on Internet sites. She defended her beliefs on marriage as being between a man and a woman and said that she became the target of critics as a result. She also said the revealing photographs were modeling shots which are often taken to help launch one's career. She said in the most recently released photographs, the wind blew her top off, exposing more of her breast than was planned.

She said the photographs should not have been published or released.

Trump said the pageant determined the photos are "fine." He also said Prejean's response to the gay marriage question during the Miss USA competition was an honest answer to a tough question.

The 21-year-old beauty queen and San Diego native created controversy during the Miss USA pageant when she said she believes marriage should only be between a man and a woman.

Today Prejean said she forgives Perez Hilton for creating a firestorm after she answered his question during the pageant. Perez Hilton released a statement as well saying her forgives Prejean, too.

The state pageant has been investigating whether Prejean violated her contract by making public appearances with groups opposed to same-sex marriage. She also failed to reveal that she posed in her underwear as a teenager, or in any semi-nude photos. She apparently checked "no" when asked about any such photos.

Miss California's Christian faith has been scrutinized recently after topless photos of her surfaced on the Internet. The photos are not sitting well with her conservative Christian supporters. Prejean insists the pictures were modeling shots taken when she was a teenager.

She says the photos were released "surreptitiously to a tabloid Web site that openly mocks me for my Christian faith."

In one photo posted on a gossip blog, Prejean is seen with her back toward the camera, wearing only pink panties. Prejean has said she was 17 when she posed for the lingerie photo, however, there is speculation that she was 18 at the time.

Prejean also claims one of the pictures posted on the Internet was photoshopped to make it appear as though it is her. She insists she posed for only one lingerie photo.

Prejean was named first runner-up to Miss North Carolina in the Miss USA pageant on April 19.
