RAMONA, Calif. -- A 2-year-old girl who fell into a pond in Ramona died, according to the medical examiner.
The accident was reported by her older sister, who called 911 about 3:15 p.m. Saturday from a home on Cedar Street, east of Pine Street, authorities told The San Diego Union-Tribune.
Family members were unable to get the girl out of the pond, the newspaper reported.
Firefighters found the girl underwater and started cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, though she could not be saved. She was taken to Ramona Airport then by helicopter to Rady's Children Hospital, where she was declared dead.
Authorities withheld the girl's name.
