OCEANSIDE, Calif. - A plan for a memorial in Oceanside honoring Junior Seau is in motion.

Junior Seau was a friend with a smile and enthusiasm that could light up any room and a man who gave it his all on and off the field. So for Shannon Sager, owner of Breakwater Brewing Company, the idea of building a memorial wall and statue was a no brainer.

"It would be nice to see him here in Oceanside. I want to go down there and give him a pat and say what's up," said Sager, who spent a lot of time with Seau.

Seau's neighbor Mike Walter is behind the plan to memorialize Junior Seau in Oceanside. The project will include a memorial wall with donor bricks and a life-sized bronze statue of Seau on the beach with his arms crossed.

"I want to see people be able to go to a place, see a statute of a man that did so much for us and heal," said Walter.

A fundraiser was held at Breakwater Brewing Company in Oceanside. Auction items including a custom-shaped surfboard for Seau and a guitar autographed by the Dire Straits were donated to the auction.

Around $100,000 of the estimated $240,000 costs for the wall and statue has already been donated.

The location for the memorial has yet to be picked and will need city's approval.

The former Chargers linebacker was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot in his home in May.
