SAN DIEGO—Miss California USA returns home after a controversial appearance at the Miss USA pageant to find a personal challenge by the man who wants to be the State's new governor.
Two Californian's both looking to represent the state have two very different opinions on a heated issue.
Carrie Prejean set foot on California soil for the first time since the Miss USA Pageant over the weekend and she stands firm by her controversial answer seen around the country.
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom would like to sit her down and have a little chat.
"I want to challenge her on her point of view," he told Fox 5.
The beauty queen responded to her final question in the pageant with "I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offense to anybody out there."
Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, the judge who posed the question wasn't happy with her response, and made it known on his website the following day.
"She lost not because she doesn't believe in gay marriage, " he said. "Miss California lost because she's a dumb bitch," he exploded.
She didn't have any fighting words for him but instead said she would just pray for him.
"I have a lot of gay friends," she said. "It has absolutely nothing to do with gay people... It's just my view on marriage and what it should be."
Mayor Newsom is a strong supporter of same sex marriage, and Prejean wanted to hear what he had to say about her infamous response on national television. She watched from a Fox 5 computer as Mayor Newsom made his comment.
"Good people can disagree on this," he said. "She seems like a perfectly decent person...I watched all of her interviews...she seems wonderful," he added.
Prejean listened intently and responded. "I appreciate that what he said, " she smiled. Then said she would definitely sit down and talk with him.
