VISTA, Calif. -- A man who fought with his wife before fatally stabbing her because he was angry over her extramarital affair was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in state prison.
Jose Luis Orozco, 28, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and other charges in the June 24, 2008, killing of Beatriz "Betty'' Orozco.
The woman's boyfriend of about a month reported the domestic dispute in the 4100 block of Alabar Way in Oceanside shortly after 1 a.m., police said.
Arriving officers forced their way into the home after spotting an injured Jose Orozco, his lifeless 24-year-old wife and their unharmed 3-year- old son through a window, police said.
The victim's boyfriend was not believed to be inside the home during the fight and was found sitting in a car outside the residence when police arrived.
Beatriz Orozco was pronounced dead at the scene and her husband was treated for his injuries at a hospital, then arrested.
Besides manslaughter, the defendant pleaded guilty to child abuse, kidnapping, mayhem and assault with a deadly weapon likely to cause great bodily injury.
