OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- An inert military bomb was found by a homeowner in Oceanside Sunday, and prompted a bomb squad to investigate.
Oceanside police received a call at 11:48 a.m. from a concerned property owner, who said he had found a shiny military ordnance in his backyard on 2814 Mesa Drive, Lt. Joe Young said.
Oceanside police believed it was a mortar round and called the San Diego County sheriff's bomb squad to assist. They identified the object as a military practice bomb and said it did not pose a danger.
The object appeared to be old and could have been uncovered by the recent rains, Young said. Sheriff's deputies took the bomb away.
The homeowner said he rents out the property and said tenants move in and out of it, Young said.
