LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Top-seeded San Diego State won the Mountain West women's conference tournament with a 57-43 decision Saturday against New Mexico, the seventh seed.
That gives the Aztecs (25-6) the Mountain West's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
The Aztecs led 17-4 before the Lobos (11-20) clawed their way back in, cutting the deficit to 22-15 at the half and to 26-22 with 17 minutes to go. But SDSU responded with a 15-3 run that put the game away despite making just 3 of 17 threes and shooting 59.3 percent (16 of 27) on free throws.
SDSU last appeared in the NCAAs in 2010, when it advanced to the Sweet 16 before falling to Duke.
