EL CAJON, Calif.—Starting Tuesday, Caltrans road crews will close lanes along a half-mile stretch of Interstate 8 in East County for three nights to accommodate a $9.5 million freeway improvement project.
One lane in each direction will be closed between Second and East Main streets in El Cajon between 10 tonight and 5 a.m. Tuesday, then again during the same hours over the next two nights, with all lanes reopening Friday morning, according to Caltrans.
Freeway access roads in the area may also be closed at times during those periods.
The work is part of "Reduce the Wait on I-8,'' a project that will extend the eastbound left lane and shoulder between Second Street and Greenfield Drive, widen bridges at East Main Street and Broadway and add noise- abatement features, including walls and berms, Hayden Manning of Caltrans said.
The improvements are scheduled to be completed in late 2012.
