Over the past two weeks, 571 people were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in San Diego County, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
One death attributed to a drunk driver was reported Dec. 18 in El Cajon, but authorities were still investigating the circumstances.
A holiday law enforcement task force brought together officers from 14 county law enforcement agencies, including the Coronado, Escondido, National City and San Diego police departments, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department and the San Diego Harbor Police.
During the same period last year, the task force arrested 661 people on suspicion of drunken driving, according to the sheriff's department.
