ESCONDIDO, Calif. -- A 23-year-old Temecula man with a previous DUI conviction was in custody Friday on suspicion of driving drunk once again and crashing his pickup truck into an Escondido condominium, leaving a man in critical condition and his daughter with minor injuries, police said.
The crash on Eveningside Glen occurred about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, said Escondido police Lt. Tom Albergo.
The motorist was driving eastbound on Country Club Lane when his vehicle struck a curb, ran over an electrical transformer and crashed through the back patio of the condo, which sits on Eveningside Glen, Albergo said in a statement.
A 14-year-old girl inside the condo suffered minor injuries but her father, who was on the patio, ended up pinned under pickup and was critically hurt, Albergo said, adding that firefighters extricated him from the wreckage and transported him to a hospital with a broken leg, concussion and facial injuries. Two other family members inside the home were uninjured.
The motorist, whose name was not immediately released, suffered head injuries. Albergo said he was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence causing injury, violating the terms of his probation stemming from a previous DUI conviction, and driving on a suspended license.
