A stretch of Fanita Drive near Grossmont College remained closed through the day Wednesday as crews worked to fill in a 20-foot-deep sinkhole caused by a ruptured storm drain.

The pit developed in the middle of the north-south street in northwestern El Cajon on Tuesday, said Monica Zech, the city's public information officer.

The street, which leads into adjacent Santee, will remain blocked between Gibbons Street and Valley Lake Drive pending completion of repairs, which may stretch into the weekend, according to Zech.
