LAKESIDE, Calif. -- It took ground and airborne crews roughly a half-hour today to subdue a wildfire that blackened about five open acres just south of San Vicente Reservoir.
The non-injury blaze erupted for unknown reasons in steep, rugged terrain near Moreno Avenue and Vigilante Road in the Lakeside area shortly after 11:30 a.m., Cal Fire Capt. Mike Mohler said.
Personnel with the state agency and the Lakeside Fire Department traipsed into the hilly East County locale to fight the flames, aided by two helicopters and two air tankers. The crews had the blaze under control by about 12:15 p.m., Mohler said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, the captain said.
