A man who preyed on people trying to sell i-Pads on the Craigslist website was arrested in East County, police said.

Jesus Sanchez of Santee turned himself in to La Mesa police after officers served a search warrant at his house in the 9300 block of Nalini Court Tuesday, investigators said. He was booked into County Jail on suspicion of grand theft and robbery.

Police said Sanchez is suspected of robbing at least two people of i-Pads. In both cases, the victims advertised the i-Pads on Craigslist. Sanchez contacted both sellers and arranged to meet them at a residential address in La Mesa, police said. When the sellers arrived, Sanchez would meet them at their cars. In both cases, Sanchez ran off with the i-Pads without paying.

Police said the victims, both men in their 20s, reported the thefts and described the thief. Detectives identified Sanchez after a month-long investigation, but police would not say how they connected Sanchez to the crimes or what evidence, if any, they found at his home.

Detectives said the investigation is ongoing and there may be other victims. Sanchez is an Hispanic male, 20 years old, 5-feet-8 inches tall, 225 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes. Anyone who thinks they were robbed by Sanchez should call Det. Lynch at 619-667-1440.
