OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- Whether it's the work of the world's most famous and mysterious graffiti artist or not, the giant rat on the side of an Oceanside restaurant is drawing lots of attention.
Banksy is an anonymous, faceless, British graffiti artist known for challenging the mind and the eye with his art. His giant graffiti murals have been spotted all over the world.
There is speculation that a mural of a rat holding a kite on the wall of Bull Taco may be his work.
"I don't know who this guy is. Why us? What the hell is going on?" said a confused Steve Randolph, Bull Taco owner. "Tell Banksy free tacos. Free tacos for life."
Banksy has reportedly been in Southern California recently in advance of the Oscar awards, where a documentary featuring his work is nominated. His public relations firm told Fox 5 the Oceanside graffiti isn't his. Fans who saw the art aren't sure if it is or isn't Banksy. They also don't care.
"His paintings are...you have to try and figure them out," said Banksy fan Sam Franczyk. "What is he even trying to say there?"
"I thought it was fake, but I'm here standing next to a rat. It could be Banksy, you never know," said fan Gabe Medina.
Randolph said he'll keep the artwork on his restaurant's wall as long as people want to come see it.
