WYLIE—Fifteen year old Nahum Martinez was a freshman at Wylie East High School. He was also a runner on the school's cross country team.
Around 5:30 Saturday morning, the teen's body was found near a storm drain on Linden Avenue. He had been shot to death.
"My heart just goes out to the child first of all. It was a child that was shot and killed and also to our friends our neighbors here", said Neighbor Robin Wacaster.
Wacaster went jogging around 4 a.m. and says the body wasn't there when she left.
"The street was quiet. There was nothing, nobody, nobody out, no cars, nothing", Wacaster said.
A few feet from where the body was found, police searched a home at the corner of Oxford Drive and Linden Avenue. They say the home is connected to the murder.
Investigators could be seen carefully going over an upstairs room. They also paid close attention to the bushes below the window.
Police say Martinez was at the home prior to the murder and there was evidence of a disturbance inside the home.
"We're definitely treating this as a homicide at this point", said Det. Venece Perepiczka of the Wylie Police Department.
Police tell us they have arrested two 14 year old juveniles and charged them with murder. They also say a gun believed to be involved in the murder was found in a nearby field not far from Martinez's body.
From his driveway, Kevin Riley can see the spot where the body was found and police going in and out of the house across the street. He says this quiet neighborhod will never be the same.
"This is like the first time something like this has every happened around here. Everybody's not used to this. This is not what happens every Saturday, every Saturday morning", Riley said.
Police have not released a motive for the crime. Because of the age of the teens charged with the murder, their names are being withheld.
