DALLAS—Mirta Ramos and her sister Isabel are inseparable--even in surgery.
The sisters came to Forest Park Medical Center Plastic surgeon Dr. David Azouz last week.
Mirta had a breast lift after having her breast implants removed--she also had liposuction on her back, stomach and arms while Isabel had whole body liposuction.
Sisters' having plastic surgery isn't uncommon--but having it done in the same afternoon is rare.
"I was the one who was going to have the surgery and she said, I want to do it to it," Mirta said. "So I said let's do it together."
Isabel said she thought it was a good idea.
"She kind of like always says you know what? I would feel better if you would do it together, you know have surgery at the same time," Isabel said. "I said okay, I'll do it."
It's this third time Mirta and Isabel has scheduled surgery together.
Dr. Azouz has performed surgery on husbands and wives, mothers and daughters and sisters--but nothing like this.
"What makes this unusual is that the sisters chose to have surgery they say day and they chose to recuperate together," Dr. Azouz said.
Isabel remembers the procedures happening fast.
"I saw my sister being in recovery and by the time I knew it I was already on her side being recovered myself."
Mirta and Isabel have always been two peas in a pod--while growing up in south Texas they celebrated birthdays together and through their teens, 20's and 30's even scheduled dental appointments together.
For them, one is the loneliest number.
"It's easier for the first few days because I have her, she has me," Mirta said. "We have so much confidence together."
Dr. Azouz said the only time the sisters were separated was during surgery--when it comes to recovering from surgery--attitude is everything.
"They seem to have less pain, less tenderness and have a much more upbeat attitude because they are going through the surgery together," Dr. Azouz said.
That's the way it is for Mirta and Isabel--always has been, always will be.
"That's how we were brought up," Mirta said.
