EVERYWHERE—The Golden Globe nominees were announced this week and a couple of them are just being released now in theaters here in town. They make our list for this week's Roni Recommends
For the film for the family, check out 'Avatar'. Nominated for a Golden Globe Best Motion picture, Avatar is the magical tale that brings Earth and a new planet, Pandora together. Jake is a parapalegic war veteran who is sent to Pandora on a mission to push the Na'vi tribe from their land so they could gain access to the nutrient rich minerals beneath the soil. Jake befriends the Na'vi people and falls in love with Naviri, which puts him and the mission in a compromising position.
Next is the movie for the date, 'Crazy Heart'. It's also a Golden Globe nominee, and stars Jeff Bridges, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Collin Farell. It's the story of a hard living, legendary country musician who has become the cliché he sings about in his songs; past his prime, with a taste for the wrong women and the bottle. But he attempts to turn his life around and sober up, with the help of a young optimistic journalist.
And last, the movie to wait for the DVD, 'Did You Hear About The Morgans?' Sarah Jessica Parker plays a high strung, stiletto wearing city slicker, married to a cheating scumbag, played by Hugh Grant. After witnessing a murder, they are forced into the witness protection program and shipped off to rural Wyoming. Typically, they have to learn how to live without their luxuries and face each other and the problems that broke down their marriage.
