Racing legend Mario Andretti is creating bucket list moments for race fans who’ve dreamed of being a racecar driver. Andretti is now one of the drivers giving rides in a two-seater IndyCar. It’s something that even gets X Games star Travis Pastrana excited. He hit the 1.5-mile oval with Andretti at Texas Motor Speedway.
“This is really my first time checking out IndyCar racing,” Pastrana said. “Mario is just somebody I’ve looked up to my whole life.”
Mario Andretti is synonymous with racing. He’s the only driver to win the Daytona 500, the Indy 500 and the Formula One world title.
In classic Andretti style he said his favorite racing moments was when, “I could win a race, any race.”
He says racing is just in his blood.
“It’s been all I’ve ever wanted,” Andretti said. “You know so I stayed in it as long as I could. I was very fortunate to have a long career and dodged a few bullets along the way.”
Now at 72-years-old he can’t wait to get suited up and drive the two-seater.
After I signed a waiver, a big waiver, I gout suited up and got belted in behind Andretti. It definitely was a bucket list moment.
Going 150 to 190 miles-an-hour in an IndyCar…awesome. Doing it with Mario Andretti…PRICELESS.
“When people step out they have a big smile and they've experienced something that is not easy to experience in our business,” Andretti said. “You probably get the best feel of reality that we get. It's something you really can't explain until you experience it.
