The names of both the Sheriff's Deputy and suspect were released shortly after The 33's live report from Venus, Texas tonight: The suspect, Wesley Davis of Oklahoma, shot and killed Johnson County Sheriff's Deputy Clifton Taylor.

Witness Bob Boyd says he lives across the street from where the shooting took place.

"Four officer cars pulled up across the street, and they got out with their guns drawed, so I just sat there for a minute to see what's going on," says Boyd.

Boyd saw Deputy Taylor open the door to a nearby shed. The suspect, Wesley Davis, was inside and opened fire on him.

"He flew backwards and the other officers opened fire on him," says Boyd.

Both Deputy Taylor and Wesley were killed during the gunfire exchange. It's left the community looking for answers.

"This is usually very quiet. This is very unusual," says Boyd.

It was an unusual event that leaves the town of Venus without one of its protectors.

"That's bad. An officer down. He got killed in the line of duty," says Boyd.

Sheriff Bob Alford of the Johnson County Sheriff Office is requesting that the community offer support and prayers during this time. The case is still under investigation.
