DALLAS—The Food and Drug Administration is recalling 14 Hydroxycut products that may be linked to one death and several cases of liver damage.
The FDA says a 19-year-old living in the Southwest appears to have died because of complications from the supplement. There have also been 23 reports of liver problems. Seizures, cardiovascular disorders, and some muscle damage was also reported.
"The FDA urges consumers to discontinue use of Hydroxycut products in order to avoid any undue risk. Adverse events are rare, but exist. Consumers should consult a physician or other health care professional if they are experiencing symptoms possibly associated with these products," said Linda Katz, M.D., with the FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.
Hydroxycut Cleanse and Hoodia products are not part of the recall.
