Highland Park United Methodist Church has a jet on standby waiting to rescue a group of mission workers stranded in Haiti.

The 12 North Texas doctors and nurses were operating an eye clinic outside of Port-au-Prince when the quake hit. "All day long people are calling and asking for updates," said Sherry Doty whose mother is among the volunteers. "My husband heard it on the radio and asked me when is your mom going to Haiti? I said she left last Saturday," said Doty.

So far the church said only handful of text messages have been sent. One of the texts indicated some members of the group may have been injured. Doty has no idea what condition her mother is in. "I don't know but let me tell you I've been praying a lot and asking everyone else to do the same," said Doty.

Update: Only military and relief effort planes are getting in to Haiti. The HPUMC group is at the airport waiting; one group is said to be close to getting onto a military plane and the second group is working with the State Department on getting transport out.
