Two men have been arrested for allegedly trying to hire an undercover sheriff's deputy to kill a 40-year-old El Paso-area woman.

El Paso County sheriff's deputies arrested Luis Gerardo Garcia, 21, and Luis Gerardo Prieto, 18, on charges of criminal solicitation of capital murder. Sheriff Richard Wiles says they're accused of offering the deputy $5,000 to kill the unidentified woman.

Both are in El Paso County Jail with bond set at $200,000 for Garcia and $150,000 for Prieto. No attorneys are listed for either.

Wiles said Thursday that Garcia wanted the San Elizario woman dead, but it's unclear why. Wiles says Garcia has admitted the plot to investigators and has been recorded offering to pay the deputy to kill the woman, who wasn't injured.

Wiles says the case had begun as an undercover narcotics investigation.
