Santiago Morin-Gonzalez has been charged with intoxicated manslaughter and intoxicated assault with a $200,000 bond.
A wrong-way car accident turned fatal this morning for a 33-year-old Dallas woman. The crash happened around 7:30 on Northbound Interstate-35 near Inwood and Commonwealth.
This is what is left of 33-year-old Maria Vasquez’s car. Vasquez was driving alone when she was T-boned in a wrong-way car crash and taken to Parkland Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
“Investigators say after they notified the family, they learned that Vasquez had just dropped off her 3-year-old son at her parent’s home when she was involved in this collision,” says Dallas County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer, Carmen Castro.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Department says the wrong way driver is 21-year old Santiago Morin Gonzalez. He was driving an F150 traveling South on the Northbound lanes of Interstate-35 near Inwood and Commonwealth when he drove into oncoming traffic. The accident involved four other vehicles.“The deputy said that he may have suffered a broken leg and taken to Parkland Hospital,” says Castro.
No other serious injuries were reported. Gonzalez is now in custody at the Dallas County Jail.
“We are investigating alcohol possibly in this accident and have not confirmed anything – we are waiting for results,” says Castro.
Investigators say if found guilty, Gonzalez could be charged with intoxicated manslaughter.
“Nothing is official, though, right now there are no charges against this man,” says Castro.Investigators say it could take a while to get test results back. CW33 News will bring you the latest updates as they become available.
