DALLAS—Thousands of miles away from the rubble in Haiti, Dallas elementary school students are joining forces to help earthquake victims in the grief-stricken country.
Stonewall Jackson Elementary students are gathering toiletry kits for families. Students at Urban Park Elementary can deviate from their uniforms and wear jeans in exchange for donations. And students and staff and Bonham Elementary are donating money to the American Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders.
The latest death toll in Haiti now tops 100,000. Organizations helping in the earthquake relief efforts include:

Spirit Airlines is offering 5,000 "free spirit" miles for donating to the Red Cross. Choice Hotels is allowing members to use their points to donate to the American Red Cross Haiti relief effort.
AmeriCares CNN's Ann Curry suggests donating to AmeriCares, who are "gearing up to take in medicines to Haiti," she says.
International Medical Corps Santa Monica-based International Medical Corps says it has an emergency response team providing medical care outside the general hospital near the presidential palace in Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince. Members of the team are also visiting hospitals around the city to assess their needs. The group is accepting donations on its website imcworldwide.org.

National Nurses United www.nationalnursesunited.org A national organization of registered nurses is calling for nurses throughout the U.S. to volunteer to assist Haitian residents by providing emergency short term and long term medical support. Nurses can sign up at the NNU Web site.
