In honor of World TB Day, the Dallas County Department of Health and Human Services will offer free tuberculosis testing Wednesday.

According to the county health department, tuberculosis is a potentially fatal bacterial disease that often attacks the lungs. Tuberculosis can also affect the spine, brain and kidneys. The disease is treatable but can take many months to cure.

Any Dallas County resident is eligible for the free screening. Clients must arrive at the health department at 2377 North Stemmons Freeway and get an injection under the skin. Patients must return Friday to get their results.

The county health department typically offers tuberculosis testing for $30.
