ARLINGTON, TEXAS—When it came to showcasing his new 1.2 billion dollar stadium, Jerry Jones did everything he could. He entertained NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, had former President George W. Bush flip the coin and brought in all the legends to unveil the new Ring of Honor. As as visible as Jerry was before the game, he was just as invisible afterwards choosing not to show up in the locker room after the 33-31 loss to the New York Giants.
"I'm disappointed for Jerry" said Cowboys Head Coach Wade Phillips. "I wanted to win for him and the team wanted to. "He's such a great Owner, he put this stadium up for us, The Cowboys. I do feel bad about that" Phillips said.
"There's something to be said for accountability" said Defensive End Marcus Spears. "For one or two guys out of 53 to take the blame, I don't think it's realistic. Neither one was on the field by themselves on every play. We make mistakes as pros and at the end of the day, we gotta do what it takes to win" said Spears.
Maybe the most drastic change, as far as accountability goes, comes from Quarterback Tony Romo. We all remember what happened the last time the Cowboys lost. It came in Philadelphia and Romo said afterwards, if this is the worst thing that happened to him, he will have lived a pretty good life. After this game, certainly a change in tone and maybe maturity as he took full ownership for the loss
"There are no excuses" said Romo. "Turnovers can't happen. I had three and I will look at myself and hopefully not make those mistakes. We can't win games if I do things like that. I will work very hard and diligently to make sure doesn't happen again" Romo said.
Romo didn't stop there. "I'm really disappointed in myself now, I'm really not ok with it now. I'll improve and I'll fix this" Romo said. "I'll be better and go forward."
And if he does, maybe it will be the salve to heal some of Jerry's wounds, but nobody should expect to see the boss with much of a smile on his face around Valley Ranch this week.
