Famed physicist Stephen Hawking will be in Seattle next month to make a rare U.S. appearance at the Seattle Science Festival.

Professor Hawking will join fellow scientists at the Paramount Theater June 16 as part of the festival's Luminaries Series.

"We are thrilled that Stephen Hawking will be able to join the Seattle Science Festival Luminaries Series. It is an honor for our community that he will join us as we launch the inaugural Seattle Science Festival" said Seattle Science Center Festival Director Dr. Ellen Lettvin.

"The overarching goal of the Seattle Science Festival is to demonstrate, at the highest possible level, that science is an integral part of our community's culture. It aspires to enhance scientific literacy in our community and inspire a new generation of scientists and engineers. Hawking's participation in this momentous event will certainly catalyse excitement about science in our community."
