A man who died in a paragliding accident near Pemberton, B.C., has been identified as 55-year-old John Clifford of Seattle, The Canadian Press reported Wednesday.

The B.C. Coroners Service said Clifford had been one of more than 100 competitors at the Canadian Paragliding National Championships near Pemberton, about 19 miles north of Whistler, on Monday. But Clifford ended up in the Lillooet River for some reason.

The accident is under investigation.

According to the Canadian Press, Clifford is the fourth hang-glider or paraglider to die in B.C. this year.
