Molly Hightower of Port Orchard dedicated her life to giving orphans in Haiti a better one. That work came to an end during the devastating earthquake last year. Hightower’s body was recovered in the rubble of the orphanage where she lived and worked. She was 22.

Before she died, Hightower asked her family members to donate shoes, something Haitian children desperately need. Now her parents, who live in Bellevue, carry on that mission.

They have gathered almost 200,000 pairs of shoes and almost half a million dollars from donors in the Northwest. Through her parents, the spirit of Molly Hightower’s work lives on.
