“Just came up a little bit short,” is how Kasey Keller summed up the night.

The match was more than a play-off event for Keller, the veteran goalkeeper for the Seattle Sounders Football Club, who ended his career as a player tonight. It was both a victory, and defeat, because the Sounders were forced to make up a 3-goal deficit to advance to the MLS Western Conference Finals. The Sounders won the game 2-0, but not by enough to advance.

Before a crowd of 36,021, fans battled the rain at Century Link field, and watched as Real Salt Lake dominated the first half, and Seattle dominated the second half.

The Sounders outshot Salt Lake 26-4 and finished the night with goals from Osvaldo Alonso (PK) and Lamar Neagle. But the rally falls short as Real Salt Lake advances to the Western Conference Final with an aggregate total of 3-2 in the Semifinals.

The defensive highlight of the night was all Keller. In the 80th minute, he made an amazing stop against a rocket from Fabian Espindola.

The night was bitter sweet for Keller, but Keller is proud of his career.

“Twenty, twenty-one years as a pro, it’s been a lot of fun,” he said, adding that he’s looking forward to what’s next.

So are we, Kasey. So are we.
