EVERETT—Byron Scherf, accused of the murder of Corrections Officer Jayme Biendl, refused to enter a plea during his court appearance in Snohomish County Wednesday.
Scherf’s defense attorney entered a not guilty plea for him. The not guilty plea means that this case will go to trial; prosecuting attorney Mark Roe has said he will seek the death penalty if Scherf is found guilty.
Last month, Scherf admitted to killing Biendl earlier this year. He told investigators at the time that he was angry with Biendl over a conversation the two had at the Monroe Correctional Complex where Scherf is serving a life sentence under Washington state’s three strikes law.
The trial is currently scheduled for May 6th.
