Washington Representative Brian Baird is not happy with the national media.
Baird says sensationalized reports of taxpayer-funded trips, could make it hard for congress to learn first-hand about issues.
Baird is Chairman of the House Science Panel's Energy and Environment Subcommittee and says, quote ---
"I have a responsibility to know about the oceans...but if these kinds of articles are going to try to make an impression that i am just going on vacation...then a passionate voice on behalf of the world's oceans is effectively going to be silenced."
Baird specifically noted an article in The Wall Street Journal which weighed in on his and nine other's trip to the South Pole this past new year's.
