A Canadian man accused of slashing his stepdaughter's throat last month pleaded not guilty Monday.

The Abbotsford, British Columbia man continues to be held on $3 million bail. He is awaiting trial on a first-degree murder charge in the slaying death of his 5 year old stepdaughter.

Peter James Wilson is accused of murdering Clare Shelswell after an argument with his wife. The family was vacationing near Lake Cushman in Mason County. In court documents, he told his wife he would 'take care of it.' Minutes later, his wife heard screams from their daughter and discovered the little girl in a pool of blood.

Wilson claims he's on medication for bipolar disorder.
