Washington, D.C.—About 70,000 lithium-ion batteries used in Hewlett-Packard and Compaq notebook computers are being recalled.
The companies say the batteries can overheat and start a fire.
Two incidents have been reported.
The batteries were sold online and at computer and electronics stores nationwide between August 2007 and March 2008.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a voluntary recall of lithium-ion batteries used in tens of thousands of HP and Compaq laptop computers.
